Delve into our rich legacy, spanning decades of empowering women, championing social justice, and leaving an enduring impact on our community.
Delta Gamma Omega Chapter has grown in strength and number. Being the first Greek Letter organization among blacks in Corpus Christi, it inspired other Greeks to band together, thus being a pioneer in contributing to the moral, intellectual, and cultural development of the Sparkling City by the Bay community.
To perpetuate the name of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated seven sensational women, who anchored their careers at the Port of Corpus Christi, banned together to charter Delta Gamma Omega Chapter on May 7, 1946.
Through the years Delta Gamma Omega has been responsible for many activities in the Corpus Christi area such as the Ebony Fashion Fair, Charity Ball, contributions to the American Red Cross, the United Way, March of Dimes, Texas Special Olympics, the American Cancer Society, Corpus Christi Greek Council, National Conference of Christian and Jews, and the Corpus Christi Black History and Cultural Committee. Other activities have included setting- up funds for medical care for underprivileged children, and food baskets for needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Delta Gamma Omega is proud to hold a Life Membership in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). In recent years, Delta Gamma Omega has contributed to the American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association. Annually, on Martin Luther King Day, we serve the Coastal Bend area by volunteering at the Foodbank. Additionally, in partnership with LeadFirst, we provide backpacks for students returning to school.
Delta Gamma Omega Chapter has been instrumental in molding the lives of young women of African descent. In the 90’s Delta Gamma Omega supported young African American high school students with a signature group called YES (Young, Elegant, Sisters). Through this group the chapter helped bridge the gap between high school and college, focusing on HBCUs and providing mentorship. Our chapter continues to provide support and award scholarships to talented high school females who have demonstrated high scholastic and ethical standards along with proven leadership abilities. These young women have gone on to excel in the fields of education, health, and public service.
Currently, we continue to focus on bringing awareness to college readiness, with a focused interest in HBCUs. This year (2022) our HBCU co-chair, Adrienne Nickelson, developed a school club at a local high school that helps bring awareness to HBCUs.
As exemplified through our current International Programs, Delta Gamma Omega will continue to serve the Coastal Bend Community with excellence while providing service to all mankind.

Tune Brahms Lullaby
Dear Alpha Kappa Alpha, the one that we long
With friendship true and rare – With ladies so fair
May we ever be true – and all strength renew
May we ever be true- and all strength renew,
Dear Alpha Kappa Alpha, Let thy soul’s delight
Shine on pathways clear and bring
Lighting shadows be-dight.
Let’s go ever and raise- our ideals and praise,
Let’s go ever and raise- our ideals and praise
